This blog describes the flight of a cell phone attached to some helium balloons.
It left Chicago at 7:30PM on Wednesday June 3rd, and arrived in Nova Scotia about 24 hours later. It appears to have not had a good signal for most of the flight, but was able to report it's path and coordinates once it landed.
Currently it is in some trees, likely killed during a rain shower the morning of Saturday 6/6/2009. It might dry off or wake up, but it seems a bit unlikely.
new tracker ...

.. sorry introduced some bug in parsing the time, so have just placed markers.
Hmmm...did it really move?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sajid.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's missing a post or two, including the last ones, and "maybe?" one of the first few, 42.04786 -87.91888...
As an FYI.. The outlier point (ottowa) is actually over the atlantic south of Maine. The GPS was messed up with no network assist, I guess. Altitude and Speed were also 'suspect'. Fortunately it chose to send a picture along with that one confirming the "atlantic" theory.
Russ-- looks like the GPS has two tree-widths of drift. I wouldn't say it moved, but it is swaying.
ReplyDeleteProlly mean the balloons are snagged. Bummer. Well, maybe the sun will perk them up. It's just taking a rest for the big push over the Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteWe need a map showing all three flights.
